In 1979, the Austin Runners Club organized a race on the roads around Decker Lake in East Austin. The Decker Challenge was born!
Today, the Decker Challenge Half Marathon is one of the longest running races in Austin. On December 9, 2018, we'll be celebrating our 40th annual event! All finishers receive a long sleeve technical fabric t-shirt, free post-race photos, post-race beer, and a highly-coveted Decker Challenge finisher's medal.
The Housing Authority of Travis County will hold its Inaugural 5K Fun Run & Walk in conjunction with the 40th Annual Decker Challenge Half Marathon on December 9, 2018.
HATC created a nonprofit subsidiary, the HATC Foundation, to further its vision to develop vibrant communities which enhance and improve lives through the delivery of optimal programming and supportive services to all HATC residents and clients.
Our 5K Fun Run & Walk is intended to help raise funds to empower and support all of our HATC residents – both parents and children – interested in pursuing a higher education, vocational training, and/or skill-building opportunities that will eventually help them become more self-sufficient.
