Board of Commissioners

HATC is governed by five board members appointed by the Travis County Commissioners Court. The HATC Board of Commissioners is the governing body that determines policies and resolutions of HATC. The Board approves decisions that chart the direction of current and future programs and authorizes the actions of the Executive Director and his designees.

Ann Denton

Chairperson

Ann Denton was appointed as a member of the Board of Commissioners on April 26, 2016. Ms. Denton has been serving as Board Chairman since January 4, 2018.
Ann V. Denton is a national expert on effective systems and interventions for persons with disabilities, including implementation of evidence-based practices such as Permanent Supportive Housing. She provides technical assistance and training on all aspects of housing for persons with disabilities. She has provided technical assistance and training to Continuum of Care systems across the country, has provided HUD-sponsored training to cities and states.
 

She has knowledge and experience with system change, integrated systems of care, evidence-based practices, homelessness and housing issues for people with mental illness and other disabilities. From 2011 – 2015, Ms. Denton was the Director of the Homeless and Housing Resource Network (HHRN), a SAMHSA-funded initiative that provided coordinated technical assistance to all of SAMHSA’s grantees focused on serving homeless persons. Ms. Denton has conducted monitoring site visits for federal HHS programs, including Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and SAMHSA (CSAT and CMHS) and played a leadership role in the development of SAMHSA’s Permanent Supportive Housing Toolkit.

Ms. Denton serves on the Board’s Executive Committee and Quality of Life Committee.

Sharal Brown

Sharal A. Brown is the owner and President of Majestic Services, Inc., a thriving woman-owned commercial construction business located in Austin, Texas. Her company is a General Contracting firm serving clients across the state of Texas and has completed commercial construction projects for the cities of Austin, Leander, Cedar Park, Elgin, Temple, San Antonio, and Dallas. As a General Contractor, Majestic Services has constructed new buildings, additions, alterations, maintenance, and repairs for commercial and institutional buildings. Majestic Services also provides Construction Photography Services and Construction Support Services such as Project Management, Construction Management, Cost Estimating, Scheduling, Office Engineering, Clerical, and Quality Control.

Ms. Brown serves on the Board’s Executive Committee, Governance Committee, Human Resources Committee and Quality of Life Committee.

Wilmer Roberts

Commissioner

Wilmer Roberts was appointed as a member of the Board of Commissioners on April 26, 2016.

Mr. Roberts is a retired program manager from the Texas Military Force’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves (ESGR) program and has served as Deputy Division Director for the Texas Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Education, and Elder Outreach Division. Additionally, Mr. Roberts has served as Planning Commissioner for the City of Beaumont, Texas.

Mr. Roberts serves on the Board’s Governance Committee and Human Resources Committee.

Christina Rosales

COMMISSIONER

Christina Rosales is housing and land justice director at PowerSwitch Action, a national network of grassroots groups working toward economic and racial justice. She helps affiliates build and grow housing and land justice campaigns and strategies that advance housing as a human right and promote public land for public good. She previously worked for Texas Housers, a statewide housing advocacy group that fights for fair housing, tenant rights, and justice in disaster recovery programs and is on the board of the Austin Tenants Council. She is co-creator of the video game Dot’s Home that reflects much of her work with community leaders navigating a rigged choice set in their search for home and opportunity.

Born in the Rio Grande Valley and raised in Laredo, Christina speaks the distinct Tex-Mex dialect of Spanglish. Based in Austin, TX, she’s enjoying watching her young son grow and become his own person. In her spare time, she curls up with a good book and her dog or watches baseball with her husband. Christina is also sewing her way to a handmade wardrobe. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a master’s in social work from the University of Chicago.

Ms. Rosales serves on the Board’s Real Estate Committee.

Jimmy Paver

COMMISSIONER

A native of Austin, Jimmy currently serves as the Development Director for Stepping Stone Schools, a family-owned business. Prior to that, he spent 15 years working in federal, state and local politics. Jimmy has a degree in Economics from Southwestern University and is a graduate of the LBJ School of Public Affairs. He has three children and lives in Central Austin.

Mr. Paver serves on the Board’s Real Estate Committee.

Schedule of Board of Commisioners Meetings

The annual and regular board meetings are generally scheduled on the first Thursday of each month to be held at the Central Office at 10:00 AM. All meetings are subject to change and will be posted accordingly.
