FAMILY SELF SUFFICIENCY is a program to help persons become economically self-sufficient (able to care for themselves and their families without receiving any Federal or State welfare assistance). The FSS Program helps persons find oppurtunities for jobs, training and any necessary education assistance.
To become an FSS Participant, a person must be receiving Section 8 housing assistance from the Housing Authority of Travis County. The Head of Household may voluntarily sign an FSS and Contract. The Head of Household will be responsible for working to become self-sufficient. The FSS Coordinator, (Angie Thompson) will assist the FSS Participant and any other adult members of the family who make a commitment to work toward self-sufficiency.
Participant Qualifiactions:
- Comply with all terms of the FSS Contract
- Meet all Section 8 requirements (be a good tenant)
- Check in regularly with the FSS Coordinator
- Work full-time, enroll in job training program, or work part-time if attending school/training
- Set reasonable personal goals and then work to achieve them
- Attend all scheduled meetings
